Our Story
In 2011, Caterina Marchese, a Holistic Nutritionist with a deep passion for gut health, traveled to Germany. There, she discovered Kvass, an ancient fermented drink, which deeped her interest in the world of fermentation. Already an advocate for the healing power of food, Caterina was intrigued by how probiotic foods could specifically support digestive wellness.
This curiosity led her to explore fermentation further and learn that sauerkraut is one of the most nutrient-dense, probiotic-rich foods available. She began experimenting with her own sauerkrauts, eager to share the gut-boosting benefits with others.
What began as an exploration grew into March Essential Foods, with her trio of krauts—Cool as a Cuke, Digest More, and Hot for Detox—quickly gaining a loyal following in Toronto’s health food stores. These weren’t just foods but a way to showcase the power of gut health.
In 2015, March Café opened its doors with a passion for functional foods. It quickly became more than just a place to enjoy great food—it became the kraut headquarters, where every batch was crafted with meticulous attention to detail. The café became a go-to spot for those seeking nutrient-dense, gut-supporting options, featuring signature krauts and blended nut butter coffees like the Renewtella Latte—perfectly designed to complement a vibrant, healthy lifestyle.
After closing March Café in 2017, Caterina refined her focus on creating something that could be easily incorporated into everyday life, leading to Pure Living Ferments. Made with Certified Organic, Non-GMO botanicals like turmeric and garlic, these products are fermented over 90-120 days to create a tangy, gut-boosting profile.
Today, March Essential Foods continues to prioritize quality and simplicity, offering a versatile, flavorful way to support gut health, whether in dressings, marinades, or as a refreshing tonic.
